When it comes to aging skin symptoms such as fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots, prevention is key. It is never too early or too late to take preventative actions to help prevent or delay aging of the skin. Here are 24 anti-aging tips for people of any age:

  1. Minimize stress: Stress is a result of the body’s dealing with high-pressure situations and is scientifically proven to cause aging. In order to minimize stress, practice using healthy coping mechanisms such as yoga, meditation, and exercise.
  2. Eat plenty of vegetables: Cellular aging involves oxidative damage which stems from toxins in the body. Most vegetables are high in antioxidants that can help protect skin cells from oxidative stress.

  4. Reduce sugar intake: Sugar is directly responsible for aging in almost all organisms, not just human beings. Reducing or eliminating your sugar intake will go a long way in terms of aging prevention.
  5. Stay hydrated: Make sure to stay properly hydrated throughout the day by drinking 8-10 eight oz. glasses, however, drinks with caffeine or alcohol do not count toward the daily requirements.
  6. Stay moisturized: Keeping your skin moisturized will lock in the hydration and leave your skin soft and smooth.
  7. Be aware of any facial habits: Did you know that repetitive facial movements such as consistently raising your eyebrows can be responsible for wrinkle formation? Do your best to minimize any unnecessary facial scrunching, and be aware of any bad facial habits you may be forming.
  8. Sleep: Try get 8 hours of sleep every night. Not only is it good for your physical health, but it is good for your skin too. The body needs a good night’s sleep in order to rejuvenate.
  9. Invest in a good pillowcase: Friction caused by rubbing against a harsh fabric can cause sleep lines and wrinkles to develop. Try to use a satin or silk pillow that is smooth and soft to the touch.
  10. Snack on nuts: Nuts are great snacking food, and are filled with anti-aging fats, vitamins, and minerals, and are a good source of protein.
  11. Eat fish: Most types of fish are high in omega-3 fatty acids, which is an important nutrient that has proven benefits for the health of your skin.
  12. Wear sunscreen every day: One of the easiest and most effective ways to prevent aging is to practice good sun protection habits such as wearing a high SPF broad-spectrum sunscreen. The sun can still cause damage to your skin even on overcast days or in the winter.
  13. Protect your eyes: The delicate skin around your eyes is an area of the face that is the most prone to aging as a result of UV exposure from the sun. Invest in a good pair of sunglasses and make sure to wear them when you are outside in the sun.
  14. Don’t smoke: Smoking cigarettes causes premature aging of the skin in addition to other effects such as yellow teeth and bad breath.
  15. Take in Vitamin D: Research has linked vitamin D to the ability to slow the body’s natural aging process. Although the research is not fully conclusive, it may be worth adding a vitamin D supplement to your regimen.
  16. Eat a lot of fruit: Just like vegetables, many fruits have antioxidants. Additionally, fruits such as oranges and cranberries are high in vitamin C, which has the ability to fight aging.   17. Go lighter with makeup: Heavy use of makeup can clog the skin’s pores, reduce moisture in the skin, and decrease the skin’s elasticity over time. Be especially careful with heavy foundations and try to use a lightweight foundation instead.
  18. Eat more beans and legumes: These foods have various minerals that help the skin retain water, which keeps the skin properly hydrated and looking youthful.
  19. Drink tea: Drinking tea can help prevent aging in two different ways. First, tea is packed with antioxidants that are good for the skin. Second, taking a break from the day to have a cup of tea is a great stress reliever.
  20. Incorporate olive oil into your diet: Oils and fats have a bad reputation for being unhealthy, but there are many healthy fats such as olive oil that are great for the body and skin.
  21. Drink red wine: Red wine is high in resveratrol, which is a powerful antioxidant known to limit the visible signs of aging. We recommend no more than a glass daily since too much alcohol can cause dehydration and increase the appearance of aging.
  22. Limit alcohol consumption: Although red wine is an antioxidant, most other forms of alcohol are not antioxidants and can be very damaging to the skin over time.
  23. Decrease your lactose consumption: Lactose found in milk and dairy products has been linked to acne, which can lead to scarring and age spots. Try to swap the regular milk for almond, skim, or oat milk. There are many substitutes for milk, and slowly introducing a dairy alternative into your diet can have a positive effect on your skin.
  24. Avoid processed carbohydrates: Just like sugar, processed carbohydrates can contribute to the aging of the skin. Try to limit your intake of processed carbohydrates and foods and try to eat natural foods.
